Fed: Ul Haque refused bail on terror charges

The first Australian charged under new anti-terror laws, IZHAR UL HAQUE, has unsuccessfully
applied for bail in a Sydney court.

Two distinct pictures emerged of UL HAQUE during his bail hearing in Sydney's Central
Local Court.

The prosecution has alleged he trained with a banned terrorist organisation in Pakistan,
expecting to take part in a jihad, or holy war, and die a martyr.

But the defence argues the 21-year-old Sydney man is of impeccable character, who pursued
some woolly notions in Pakistan after failing his second year of medical studies in New
South Wales.

Arrested two weeks ago, UL HAQUE allegedly received training from terrorist organisation
Lashkar-e-Toiba in Pakistan.

The court's been told UL HAQUE allegedly spent three weeks at a combat training camp last year.

UL HAQUE faces the same court again on May the 5th.
