Vic: Yallourn talks may have succeeded = 2
Mr Mighell said the new deal included a 36-hour week and a nine-day fortnight for the
Latrobe Valley plant's 65 maintenance workers.
He told reporters unions had agreed to Yallourn's demands to move night shift workers
to day shift in return for the reduced working hours, a 12.5 per cent wage increase over
three years and a $1,000 sign on bonus.
A compensation package for those workers also would be paid over the next 10 years.
Mr Mighell said the issue of contract labour was likely to be resolved with an agreement
that any new workers would not to be paid anything less than the current employees.
He said this would give members greater security against any job shedding.
"I think this gives them a good reason to continue mediation, I think that ought to
be the way forward," he said.
Negotiations on contract labour would resume on Monday.
