Vic: Homeless Victorians get free Xmas lunch

More than 850 homeless people will be treated to a traditional Christmas lunch at the
Melbourne Park Function Centre today.

Invitations for the lunch -- called The Big Give -- have been sent to community groups
for distribution among the homeless, women and children in shelters, isolated homeless
people and disadvantaged youth.

More than 250 volunteers will be on hand to serve the festive feast.

Earlier this week, Victorian Premier STEVE BRACKS presented a cheque for $20,000 to
organisers of the lunch, St Mary's House of Welcome.

The Big Give was set-up by a group of individuals from community organisations and
the business sector who wanted to ensure no Australian would be alone at Christmas.

Every year, the group provides Christmas lunch and entertainment for needy Victorians.
